Mike Mogan’s interest in product design started as a child tinkering and building various contraptions in his family’s garage. His father was a tin knocker who had a variety of tools. He started showing his son the ropes at a young age. It began in Cub Scouts, where they built the sharpest looking pinewood derby car. As Mike got older, he grew from his father’s assistant to developing his own creations. His first prototype, patented over 25 years later, was created in that garage. Mike gained experience in mechanical drawing and computer-aided drafting (CAD) in high school. It turned out he had a knack for laying things out just like his old man. This accelerated the development of his skills and fueled his creative fire.
He enjoyed drafting and architectural design in high school and thought about pursuing a career in architecture. Instead, he followed his father's advice and enrolled in civil engineering in college. From a professional engineer with 20 years of experience specializing in highway design to the inventor of e-Beach Wagon and CustACan, Mike always dreams up new concepts and ideas to turn into reality. The creation of e-Beach Wagon allowed him to do what he loves best – using his creative mind to invent products that enable people to live life more efficiently.
Mike initiated the building of his electric beach wagon after he and his wife, and their Yorkie, experienced some difficulties carrying their gear and supplies across the sandy beach. Later, after the birth of their son, trips to the beach became more difficult as the weight and equipment increased. What was supposed to be a fun, stress-free day began and concluded with stress and angst trying to transport the necessary gear. It was then that he began researching electric beach wagons. The invention already existed, but there was room for improvement in the design and the price.
After much trial and error in prototype and design, e-Beach Wagon is now ready to assist families and beachgoers with carrying heavy gear across challenging terrain with its electric motor and low-pressure balloon wheels. Mike also ensured that the new wagon design would include weather-proof features to guarantee that the product would last for years to come. Mike works diligently under the personal motto, “work smarter, not harder,” with his drive to discover new ways to improve daily tasks. In addition, he contributes the success of his creations to the fact that he does not allow failure to discourage him; instead, he is driven by the process of stumbling and making improvements along the way. Whether Mike is demolishing an old bathroom mud wall or creating a beach wagon with an innovative design, his life calling is to discover ways to make life more relaxing and efficient. Mike enjoys camping trips with his family and traveling across the country in their travel trailer when he is away from work. Together, they have shared many adventures, including trips to Firefly Music Festival and their Jersey Shore home. In addition, he loves to ride his motorcycle, scuba dive, and play competitive games such as ping pong, horseshoes, etc. Even when he is away from the office, Mike often observes the world and researches the possibilities for new creations.
